Holy Week
Holy Monday
The Patriarch Joseph and the barren fig tree

When: Monday of Holy Week.
The services of Holy Monday remember the Patriarch Joseph, sold by his brothers and falsely accused, yet faithful and finally exalted, an image of Christ who was betrayed and then glorified. They also recall Christ cursing the fig tree that bore no fruit, a warning against a faith without good works.
The first evenings of Holy Week are served as “Bridegroom Matins”, with the hymn “Behold, the Bridegroom comes at midnight” calling the faithful to watchfulness.
Holy Week is kept with strict fasting and many services, as the Church follows Christ day by day toward His Passion.
